Well what can I say about the city? Its got a lot of old buildings, a river, football team, rugby team, a big town hall called the Capitole building, you will find lots of dog shit about and its the gay capital of France,
The people are very standoffish, at first until they get to know you then they are brill, at first I thought it was me, but they are like this with everyone, even my landlady commented on it once
At first when I arrived I stayed in hotels, a good one is called the B&B not very expensive and close to town so you can walk in, you will find a lot of hotels are full at certain times, so book early!
A very good time to go is the midsummer festival, midsummer eve all the bands and people come onto the streets, on nearly every street corner you will find a band, and things don’t stop till the very early hours even if its on a weekday, this is one night I would go back for, but don’t go for New Years eve I came back from the UK to experience it and it was dead, you would find more excitement in a grave yard
I used to visit the Arnaud Bernard area, its a mostly Arab area, in the area are lots of bars & cafes, people did comment that they dont have English visitors, but its a safe area as in fact is most of the city, close by is St Sernin that holds a Sunday market and well worth a visit, but dont forget to haggle
My main bar was L'autan run by two guys Marco & Polo, the later is a right misserable guy, he did remind me of Uncle Fester out of the Adams family and made you about a welcome as a fart in a lift, Marco is a brill guy even if we could not comunicate. The bar has bands on every now and then some they charge 3€ others free.
Cafe Rex is just around the corner from the bar, good restaurant, bar and disco, it’s an Australian bar and the owner is a coach for the Toulouse rugby team
Good pizza shop right next to the Rex
In the squire they hold concerts every now and then and they are free. Cheaper cigarettes can be bought off the Arab sellers in the area, but if you have the time pop over to Spain to get them, nice day out! The French did bring out a law that you can only carry 200 on your person or 800 total in your house, this is illegal in the EC, but if you need to bring some back from Spain cross the boarder coming back on weekends or Lunch time
